People are very serious about their dogs and cats. That’s why pet lovers spend big bucks each year on keeping them safe. But since no one can constantly watch over their pet, the choices are between leaving them alone at home, trying to install some kind of security camera or being with them all the time. None of these sound idea. Shouldn’t there be a better solution for solving this problem? Yep — that’s why the Paby 3G GPS Pet Tracker & Activity Monitor was created.
Paby is a small device that attaches to any sized pet’s collar. Forget about Bluetooth, here you’re getting a cellular network connection that connects over vast distances. But it’s what you do with that cellular connection that makes a difference. Getting into specifics, it uses a combination of 3G GPS, LBS (location based services) and Wi-Fi to monitor, track and notify you.
The cellular coverage works through one of two options: either working through the provided SIM card and a monthly network subscription plan offered by the company (starting at $4.99), or by using an existing cellular network service plan through AT&T or T-Mobile. To prepare the Paby, you remove backing and insert a SIM card. Once powered up, it now syncs with its (iOS/Android) app through the cellular network chosen — think of it as a phone-less phone that’s calling home with tracking location information and using cellular, GPS and Wi-Fi to do it. That’s why the app uses Google Maps to show you what’s going on with your pet, so now you can keep tabs.
Additionally, geo-fence alerts (i.e., “virtual fences”) can be set up so that if the pet transgresses, you’ll be sent an alert. This can be as simple as being warned that the little angel has sauntered through a barrier into the kitchen again somehow, to the more serious of the pet having gotten through the front door or exiting the safety of the backyard.
Other uses of the app include exercise recommendations based on the pets specifics like sleep patterns and intensity of play time. It even gets into tracking territory by counting the number of steps taken and calories being burned.
On the analog side of things, an LED flashing light is built-in for added safety as well as there being a speaker for playing an app-initiated sound for locating where the pet is when nearby. A rechargeable lithium battery supplies the power needed for things to operate, and is easily recharged — just touch the magnetic-ended induction USB cable to the back end till it sticks in place and then wait a while.
The Paby 3G GPS Pet Tracker & Activity Monitor is lightweight, waterproof and comes in a variety of colors and patterns so as to match a pet’s personality (actually the pet owner’s interpretation of their pet’s personality); examples being “Spider Red,” “Future Green,” “Allstar,” “Midnight Black” and “Bubble Pink.” And because the company really cares, the food-grade silicone packaging becomes a collapsible, reusable water bowl (that’s even better than just being “green”). Retail cost is $79.99.
