Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger is looking to increase the quality and his amount of players in the defensive department of his squad, this is why the French manager was keen on signing Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia but the Spanish club has confirmed that the 24 year old German defender is not up for sale.
Since Mustafi is not for sale, this means that Arsene Wenger will have to search for another defensive reinforcement.
During the 2016-17 summer transfer window, Wenger has already signed a defender after having signed the 20 year old player Rob Holding for an undisclosed fee but considering that he is so young, Holding might not be a regular starter and could just be used for a few matches as a substitute player.
Wenger wants to look for someone who is more experienced and rumors are suggesting that Marcel Tisserand of Monaco has turned into a summer target as he is a 23 year old Congolese defender who can perform either as a right-back or as a centre-back. This adaptability is something that every manager wants to have in his players as there are certain matches when key players are injured and there are occasions when coaches have to make last minute changes.
Another name that has been linked with a potential transfer to Arsenal is Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez but it’s believed that an offer in the region of £51.5million will be needed in order to sign the Colombian attacker and it might be too much cash for Arsene Wenger, as he is a manager that is not known to offload so much cash in players.
However, if Wenger is truly interested in signing Rodriguez then a summer move is indeed possible as he has indeed made a few shock signings after splashing out £42 million in bringing Ozil to the Emirates Stadium and the same thing might happen with James Rodriguez.
