I have never thought about art journaling as a hobby until late last year when I finally summoned the courage to return to my first love, i.e. art. The time I began to draw and paint again, I did not have grand dreams of becoming a famous artist. I knew I just wanted to express myself through drawings, doodles and words. And having an A5 sketchbook, a drawing pencil, a permanent pen, and a set of watercolors was enough for me.
The years I spent writing on journals and diaries make it easy for me to accompany my drawings with text. When I’m feeling stumped, however, I pick out a quote from a book or simply stamp some text using rubber stamps. Some days, the art journal page turns out to be purely visual. Just a drawing or a painting full of meaning, thoughts and feelings. This is what art journaling is about after all.
