Darrius Scott is a wide receiver for Booker T. Washington Senior High School. He’s committed to FIU (Florida International University). He came along way. I remember assisting Darrius with FCAT skills and other educational requirements at Francis Tucker Elementary. Boy how time flies. He will graduate with the “2016” class. His Hudl highlights currently has 1K views. Pretty impressive. He’s getting the exposure he needs.
We should encourage student athletes to give it their all. It’s not easy for students these days and it certainly isn’t easy for “student athletes.” Scott is 5’10” 170lbs. He also has an offer from Temple University but gave a verbal commit to FIU. That means more than likely he will be staying in Florida. There’s nothing wrong with staying close to home.
MaxPreps 2015 has Darrius Scott’s stats at 92 yards, Average 15.3 Receiving yards, and 6 catches. His receiving yards per game average at 18.4 with 2 total touch downs. “Nice job!” I’m so proud of Darrius Scott. He came a long way from his elementary days. Next year he will venture off to college and live his “dreams.”
Athletics help keeps youth out of trouble and they should be encouraged to participate in at least one sport but there should also be deep discussions about “education.” Encourage athletes to do well on the field but make sure that they understand the importance of getting a well balanced education. All students I admire your continuously “dedication” to your craft and the “determination” to become the best that you can be. Blessings to class of “2016.”
