Curtis Axel Celebrates 250-Day Milestone With Tweet

Curtis Axel reached a milestone of sorts on October 4th, 2015. In a celebratory tweet to the world last weekend, the self-declared true winner of the Royal Rumble announced, “I have been in the Royal Rumble Match for 250 days!” He even headlined it as a “Breaking News Update”.

The count began at Royal Rumble on January 25th, 2015, when Curtis Axel was attacked by Erick Rowan on his way to the ring. The assault made it impossible for him to compete in the match. Later, current WWE superstars, Zack Ryder and Xavier Woods, reacted to the injustice done to him in supportive tweets of their own:

While there is still a lot of fanfare about Curtis Axel’s unofficial record, the official record for the longest time spent in a Royal Rumble match belongs to Rey Mysterio. The masked superstar spent one hour, two minutes and twelve seconds in the match in 2006 and went on it win it.

Following the incident at the Royal Rumble earlier this year, Curtis Axel started his own hashtag, #AxelMania, that trended on Twitter for a considerable amount of time. The gimmick was a parody of Hulk Hogan’s ‘HulkaMania’ of the 1980s. It was scrapped in July after Hogan was fired from the company for racist remarks.
