Dobet Gnahoré- World Artist Biography

Dobet Gnahoré is a dancer and singer from the Ivory Coast. She is a member of the Mandinka tribe. This dancer and singer is from a continent famous for the Ivory Coast Mapouka dance, and the region where WereWere Liking created the famous Ki-Yi Mbock theatre troupe. She studied dance, theatre music and singing there.
 Dobet Gnahoré- A Versatile Performer

When she is on stage or in front of the camera, Dobet Gnahoré explodes. She started performing at the age of 12 and over time gained recognition for her work through her collaborations with other artistes, such as India Arie.

Her music has attracted the support of organizations outside the African continent, and her latest tour was sponsored by the Foundation of the Alliance Francaise in Paris.

She mesmerizes the audience with her performance and is able to sing in several different languages, including French and her mother tongue, Bete. She has received numerous awards for her work and in 2010; she received the Grammy award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance.

Her performances are always energetic. The control she as over her voice as she does movements requiring considerable strength and agility is exceptional. She has been known to flip straight up from a prone position in a single effortless move.
She is married to the guitarist Colin Larouche de Feline, who is French. Her husband played guitar with the Ki-Yi Mbock Theatre troupe for several years.
