The Christmas holidays are almost here, and that means that Edmonton’s Can Man Dan will soon be setting up shop to collect donations of food and money for the Edmonton area food banks.

Can Man Dan ( or as he is better known, Dan Johnatsone) first started the tradition of renting a large van and driving it to a parking lot of a local grocery store several years ago. He’d camp out in it, braving the cold and other elements in an effort to raise both funds and awareness about the need for local residents to support the food bank.

This year, he’s decided to be really ambitious and set up shop three times in three different locations. First, he’ll be parked at the Southgate Centre Safeway from Thursday, December fourth until Sunday the seventh. Then he plans on hitting the road and heading to Calgary. After that, it’s back to Edmonton for a three night stint at the Southbrooke Sobeys.

Last year, he raised $12,000 and 8,000kg of food for the not for profit agency, and this year, he hopes to do even better. You can help by stopping by his truck with a kind word and a donation of cash or non-perishable food. If you don’t live in Edmonton, why not contact your local food bank and find out what you can do to help them feed your local community.

Can Man Dan is doing his part to help the city’s hungry enjoy a good meal. Won’t you do yours?
