It’s a sad fact of life that even in a relatively wealthy country like Canada, there are people who go hungry. Food banks do what they can to help alleviate this problem, and there is something that you can do to help them in this important work. It’s fun and only takes a few minutes to do.
All you have to do is get out your phone or camera and take a picture of your next meal, be it in a restaurant or one you are enjoying in your own home. Once you’ve got the photo you like, simply post it to Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #sharemynextmeal, along with a brief mention of which food bank you’ll be supporting through either a donation of non-perishable food or money worth a portion of the cost of the meal your were fortuneate enough to be able to enjoy. Tag three friends who you want to take part, and post it to your social media.
That’s all there is to it. Just snap and post your food photo, name your food bank and challenge your friends to do the same…and don’t forget to honour your donation! If everyone does this, just think of the difference that could be made!
I'm a freelance writer with several years of experience in writing blog posts, advertising copy, product reviews and other web content. I have an undergraduate degree in Political Science, and a diploma in plant science technology. While that may be a strange combination, it's given me a wide knowledge base that I can call on when I write.
When I'm not writing for work, I enjoy writing pieces about mental health advocacy, sustainable living, gardening, autism, birds, animals and the environment.
