Is the Village at Pigeon Lake Open in the Winter?

The Village at Pigeon Lake is a quaint tourist destination about 1 hour southwest of Edmonton, Alberta. Or about 2.5 hours north of Calgary. It is just north of highway 13 between Falun and Winfield. The Village itself is not on most maps, and consists of just over a dozen shops and restaurants. It is a popular summer tourist destination but it is also open in the winter.

The stores and restaurants in the Village at Pigeon Lake close Christmas Day and New Years Day. Some also close on Boxing Day, Easter Sunday, and Thanksgiving Day, but every business has its own schedules. Most are open every day otherwise (including Sundays).

In the winter there are most certainly fewer customers in the stores, fewer guests at the inn, and it is easier to make appointments at the very popular Spa, or a table at one of the restaurants. Most stores have sales throughout the winter months to bring people out!

The stores and restaurants tend to have shorter hours in the winter than in the summer but you can count on most of the stores being open at least from 10:00 to 5:00, with extended hours for the restaurants.  There are often events throughout the winter (see below).

Prior to Christmas the Village at Pigeon Lake has, in the past, had hay rides on Saturdays (weather permitting) and has held different customer appreciation nights (with free hot dogs and games).  There is a weekend “Christmas in the Village” event, popular for woman and includes 2 nights at the Inn and many shopping specials and demonstrations.  There may be fireworks nights, and other events, every year is slightly different.  Family Day (February) also sees family friendly events (2016 the theme will be Frozen).

The stores all have different specials throughout the winter, as do the restaurants – including the Eco Cafe with 2 nights a week being a Theme Dinner where they have a 5 course meal featuring the foods of a different country each month.
