Howard Phillips Lovecraft, an American horror author, was born on August 20th 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island in New England, the setting for many of his stories. He is better known as H. P. Lovecraft.

Lovecraft has had, despite his comparatively short life and lack of major success during his own lifetime – many of his works were published after his death by August Derleth – a major impact in the world of horror fiction, with him being cited as an influence by a number of authors, including Stephen King.

As mentioned, he, like all too many artists of whatever type, did not get much in the way of recognition during his own lifetime, has, since his death, had a much greater influence, with books, films and games all being inspired by, or based on, his work.
