Poem: A Mother’s Love

A Mother’s Love
April 20, 2016

She puts the baby girl against her chest
Embraces her with a soothing and gentle touch
And feels her child’s faint heartbeat
Its rhythm in sync with her own

She covers her daughter with a warm blanket
And with the voice of an angel
Sings the baby a quiet lullaby
The song filled with a mother’s love
That lulls her baby to sleep

She then sits down on the rocking chair
And watches her baby as she sleeps
Relishing the quiet moment
Taking the time to reflect on her life
Her bond with her daughter
And all the wonderful things to come

This poem was written for a writing challenge from the following word list: heartbeat, song, child, love, touch, voice, blanket, sleep. Even though I do not have a child of my own this poem came to me quickly and writing it did not take a long time as sometimes can happen. As I was writing the poem, I was picturing everything I was writing unfolding before my eyes.

A mother’s love is unlike any other. Hopefully, it’s in store for me in the future and I will get to experience it for myself someday…
