A Sign in a Dream
April 9, 2016

As I embark on my quest to understand my life
Hoping to find the treasure to my future existence
I find myself caught in the storm
On a ship setting sail into the unknown

The fierce thunder booms in the distance
The heavy rain pounds down on me
And I find myself surrounded by hungry sharks
And angry pirates with their mighty swords
As they try to stop me from moving forward

But then I hear a siren that wakes me from my dream
And I realize that the sharks and pirates are not real
But a sign that I am the one stopping myself
From getting to the place I desire
From making my life one I will treasure instead of regret

Word list from which this poem had to be written is: thunder, pirates, storm, sail, ship, sharks, treasure. This didn’t turn out to be a typical pirate/treasure poetic story. Instead it turned out to be a poetic reflection ¬†reflection of my life… I am the one stopping myself from doing the things I want to do, things I want to accomplish, things that will make my life the way I actually want it to be.
