My Dreams in the Literary World
April 25, 2016

I dream of becoming a celebrity in the literary world
Of becoming a published author with international fame
Juggling writing projects and interviews
Book signings and engagements with fans world-wide
Hungry for all the things that big-time authors have

I wonder how these once unknown writers
Have become such successful shining stars
Read and celebrated by millions all over the world
And if I can write the same success story for myself

Yet I find myself panicked in my writing career
As I think about the failures that fall upon me
Perhaps my destiny is limited to being an unknown
And I am not meant to reach the top of the ladder
At least until I find someone committed to helping me soar

This poem was written for a writing challenge that included the following word list to be used in a poem: juggling, engagement, committed, celebrity, panicked, fame, limited, hungry. The word list got me thinking about all these successful published authors that were at one time unknowns and how I want to be just like them someday. If they can reach for the stars and be that successful I should be able to do the same… but how?
