Thinking about My Future Days

March 28, 2016

I often sit there thinking about my future days
My dreams seeming so far and out of reach
And hope that my life will be a play
In which I, the actor, will receive an award
And I, the writer, will produce a script
That will lead to the kind of ending
That even I never expected to witness

But then I find myself with thoughts of past mistakes
Running through my head on repeat
Each of the memories vivid in my mind
As if these events just transpired yesterday
And not many years ago

And I wonder if I will ever shine
As bright as the stars in the sky
Or if my life will become a faint glimmer
As the past comes to haunt me
And my fears resurface once more
Making me doubt my talents
My future, yet again, uncertain in my mind

This poem, which was a very emotional piece for me to write, was written for a writing challenge. There were ten words that had to be used to write a poem. The words in the list were: thoughts, dreams, past, memories, mistakes, future, actor, script, play, ending.
