Racism Doesn’t Seem to be Going Away

Yes, it’s 2017 and we’re still dealing with racism and discrimination, there’s a lot of injustices in the United States and of course around the world. Yes “remembering some of the stories my great grandmother would tell about the treatment towards Black people.: In the 50’s and 60’s the group called Negros. That’s the term John F. Kennedy used. Of course way before my time but hearing stories were intriguing. The thoughts of why African Americans are treated so unfairly. Reading the history books and watching videos can be unsettling.

Just to think that not only were African Americans mistreated but the Jews and Native Americans. Both groups seem to be managing quite well. There’s still injustices within the African American race. Some may wonder why White America feels so negatively towards Black People. Some may prefer to be called Black while others prefer African American. Certainly beats the names they’ve been called. Although “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. accomplished a lot” when it came to unifying both races. Fighting for African Americans civil rights.

There’s still a lot of work to be done. The injustices continue. Some African Americans are treated so unfairly that they’re losing earnings. I Tanikka Paulk should know that’s what they’re doing to me. I’m treated unfairly but refuse to stop and give in. At least there’ no water hose and dogs biting my legs. The injustices remain. There’s a song which tells a story about overcoming but there’s still a “long road ahead.”

“We Shall Overcome”

Unfortunately “African Americans continue to suffer through the injustices” and some are too afraid to stand up and fight against the hate. There’s no reason why African Americans should be treated unjustly or any other race. So many experienced slavery and some are in modern day slavery. Some of the hatefulness seems to be unreal. Imaging any persons being so hateful. In time justice will be served. The ones who continue to treat others in such a manner will face consequences. If not by the law then by God/Lord the Creator of Mankind.

Watching some of the videos where African Americans are crying and screaming to be relieved by the dog attacks, water hose attacks, and watching family members hung. The hangings continue and the racism is in another form. “There’s now the political racism and bullying.” The ones in high positions continue to harass and bully voters/citizens. The abuse of power seems to escalate. In due time the advocating, praying, and the standing firm will pay off.

Refuse to be treated like garbage. Some have been thrown away. Badly burned. My great grandmother’s grandmother and grandfather were burned to a crisps by the hate. The same town still has a lot of bigotry there. Walking to the store and a group of white men in a pickup truck with a shot gun chased every last one us. So “I’m familiar” with racism and been the ‘N” so many times. “I’m still here and will continue to advocate.” By: Tanikka Paulk
