Standing in Line to Vote

Standing in line to vote, I’m happy to do it! You will never see me standing in line to get ‘the most amazing burger’. Nope. You won’t see me standing in line to get the newest 4GFreakinGeniusPhone or the never even been tested MacFloplet. No, not me. Not ever. Two days before Christmas you will not see me standing in line to get the limited edition ’50 Shades of Grey Ken and Barbie’.
But, on election day you can find me standing in line to vote. I don’t care if I have to stand there for 3 hours or all day. Doesn’t matter, I’ll bring a book and lunch. I don’t consider standing in line to vote as an inconvenience, I consider it a privilege.
I remember my father telling us how he stood in line at the U.S. Navy recruitment office in 1941 to enlist. At the tender age of 16 he was on a destroyer, the U.S.S. Mansfield. By standing in line to vote is how I show my support and appreciation for all the men and women who have served this country and preserved my right to vote.
I’m sure glad that they didn’t mind standing in line at the recruitment office.
