Swimming in October

Greece may be too hot for me in the middle of the summer, but at such times I forget the pleasure of the beginning and end of the season.  Take October for instance.

It is still pleasantly warm here and the sea retains the memory of the sizzling July and August sun.  Swimming is still an option and a very inviting one because the beach is now deserted and only the occasional person seen bobbing around in the sea.   No problem changing on the beach either.

Once in the water it is warmer than being on the beach where the breeze can be a little fresh now. We go later to catch the warmest part of the day, in the summer we went at 8.30 a.m. now it is closer to 10.30 a.m.

Whether late Spring or  mid October this results in a shorter winter and, for me at least, it is the best time of the year.

Maybe when I complain to my family and friends in England about how hot the summer is I should balance things more and write about the pleasures of swimming in October but knowing that they are at the end of Autumn and already feeling the onset of winter I feel too embarrassed to share the pleasure.
