Each year I participate in Nanowrimo. Each year I fail.
For those who don’t know what it is, Nanowrimo is National Novel Writer’s Month. Every November, novel writers and wannabe novel writers write 50,000 words in a month. It’s a fun challenge that’s more about getting the words out on the page than it is about actually writing publishable content. You worry about the editing after its written and the month is over.
This year, at the last minute, I decided to do something different. I decided to write 50,000 words worth of articles. I’m not saying this is unique. There are lots of people who adapt the challenge to fit their needs.
I decided to do this because I have trouble sticking with a whole novel idea. I get bored and want to do something else. I figure at least with articles I can change my topics when I want to.
I’m also doing this because I want to see what can really be done on residual writing sites with Adsense. Since we’ve changed over to revenue share on Daily Two Cents and Writedge, I know there are some writers that are concerned that they won’t make money anymore. I believe it is still possible. So, I want to try it myself. With consistency, I believe it can still be done.
I am not using any major means of promotion. I’m not doing any keyword research. I’m simply writing on topics that I believe are of interest to readers. I’m writing what I know and I’m writing mostly with a conversational voice. I’m promoting the articles on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and Instagram.
The only SEO strategies I am using are the simple ones that we recommend to all of our writers.
Use the Yoast tool. Fill out the sections at the bottom of your post (under the post editor where you write).
Using tags – two words or more and up to 6 but no more.
I was going to do a post with stats and stuff every two weeks but maybe something every week would be more helpful?
It’s also good exercise for me to write stuff I’m interested in. 🙂
If you’d like to join me it’s not too late. There’s a thread about it in the Facebook Group and in the forum. Just pick a goal and commit to it. There’s 25 days left. How much can you get done? Push yourself a little for a month. That’s what it is about. Get outside of the comfort zone and make a push!
