If you have dry skin on your face, you may feel like you’ve tried everything. Even after putting on all kinds of lotions, creams and oils produced for extra-dry skin, it still looks dry and flaky. Treating dry skin is a multi-step process that involves changing the way you wash, exfoliate, moisturize and take care of your skin every day. Following an ideal routine will clear your dry skin and help it look shiny, healthy and vibrant.
Try with water only. One of the biggest mistakes of skin care you can do is to wash your face with abrasive products. If your skin is dry, it’ll overproduce oils that protect your skin from peeling. Harsh cleansers wash the oil produced, making the problem worse. Instead of washing with soap of any kind, try simply washing with water, especially when you are not wearing makeup.
Dampen a cloth with warm water and gently place it on your face. Then put on your face dry a clean, soft towel.
Even cleaning products that are labeled as having moisturizing properties are likely to contain ingredients that dry. Look at the label and read the ingredients: if you see any alcohol, salicylic acid, do not use it on your face.
Exfoliate your face a few times a week. Dry skin is actually a layer of dead skin cells that accumulate and begin to crumble. Remove this layer of dead skin, a few times a week, revealing a fresh and healthy skin underneath.
Take a deep moisturizing treatment. Once a week or so, treat your face with deep moisturizing mask that will help your skin feel renewed. Mix a mask from natural ingredients, place it on your face, and then wash it off with warm water after 15 minutes.
Avoid moisturizers that contain alcohol. With so many moisturizers to choose from, it can be difficult to figure out which one is best for your face. An easy way to distinguish the good from the bad is to check the alcohol ingredients. If a moisturizer has a long list of ingredients that contain lots of words that end in -ohol, avoid it.
Search for a natural moisturizer made from a mixture of oil and lanolin. These protect your skin and don’t dry at all.
On days when your skin is very dry, try pure argan oil or coconut oil. Choose unrefined coconut oil, since it is better for your skin than refined coconut oil.
