UFC returns to Connecticut for the first time since 2005 for this Fight Night. Being held on Friday the 5th of September, this marks one of the few Friday events. Personally I like these Fight Nights, the format of the TV show makes it a little quicker to watch if you have it on TiVo and can skip all the adverts.
As usual I do my best to bring you my UFC Fight Night 50 Jacare vs Mousasi Picks, giving you a brief breakdown of the fighters and picking who I think will win. But as always, it is a difficult sport to predict, don’t take my word as a given!
This is a rematch from a 2008 match that Mousasi won with an upkick from the bottom. Both fighters have improved a lot since then, Jacare probably a bit more than Mousasi. This fight has some serious title shot implications, there is a very good chance it will go the distance and be a close contest.
Alistair Overeem vs Ben Rothwell
There are some fan friendly big guys on this card. Overeem is a spectacle that can turn up on or off form. Rothwell is incredibly durable, making this a difficult match to predict. Hard to pick against the Reem, knowing if he turns up on form almost noone can beat him.
Matt Mitrione vs Derrick Lewis
This is the first real test for Lewis. He is relatively green in the sport and is making noise knocking people out. Mitrione is a seasoned pro, with plenty more experience with a lot of top level fights.
Joe Lauzon vs Michael Chiesa
Two jiu-jitsu based fighers square off here. Lauzon has a lot more experience and is more well-rounded. Chiesa however is always improving and offers some serious threats, especially as Lauzon always tires out quickly and he doesn’t.
