Why You Should Consider Christian Education for Your Kids

Some parents hesitate to send their children to Christian schools because of doubts that these schools are expensive, too far away, or deficient in terms of academic standards. These might be true many years ago, but now Christian schools are equal or maybe even better than their public school counterparts in a lot of ways. Here are some good reasons why you should consider sending children to a Christian school.

Learning God’s Word

One of the first and foremost commitments of Christian schools is to teach children about the word of God. This is not mandatory in public schools. Christian schools do it because it is a command of the Lord according to Deuteronomy 11:18-19.

“18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Heeding a Commandment

God wants parents to instill and nurture his words in the minds of their children (Proverbs 9:10).

“10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

To be able to accomplish this, it is best to bring children to a setting where home, school and church share the same faith. Educating children with the word of God as foundation produces knowledgeable and spiritually mature Christians.

Sharing Parents’ Christian Values

Christian parents teach their children about God. They take their kids to church, narrate to them stories from the Bible and show them Christian values. Sending the children to a Christian school is certainly the best option to make this a continuing process. If you teach this basic educational-spiritual foundation to your child and send him/her to a school where God is unimportant would certainly confuse him. Moreover, sending your child to a Christian school where facts about God is taught can free you up from certain teaching chores. It can actually give you some extra time to play with your kid.

Safety

Christian schools are definitely safer than public schools and most private educational institutions. While public schools focus on academic education, they don’t give due importance to Godly values. Theft, profanity, violence and juvenile rebellion are common in public schools – the kind of environment you don’t want your kids to grow up in; it can only spoil the Christian values you want to instill in his heart and mind.

These are just some of the good reasons why you should consider sending your kids to a Christian academy. Christian schools are not perfect. In fact, some of them are involved in certain controversies at some point. The point is, all of them foster values that are anchored in faith and obedience to God’s word. Any issues involving some of them are a matter of personal choice of specific persons involved. Getting your child closer to God while he is learning will certainly make a big difference in his life.
